Twas the day after Christmas and all through my house,
The family was buzzing about gifts from the Mouse,
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
Filled up with presents that arrived there by air.
The pins, how they twinkled! The Holiday Stitch, how merry!
And WDW candy in chocolate, mint, and cherry.
The soaps from Basin to keep me clean all year,
And a D23 membership to make me smile from ear to ear.
A book about Walt that I'll read through real quick,
All this and more from my good friend St. Nick.
But those were just for me, still more was for others,
A Belle shirt for my sister and a Mickey scoop for Mother,
Peas in a Pod and a plush Chef Mickey,
And Disney cooking bowls to make things sweet and sticky,
After months of shopping, Christmas was over real quick,
Leaving a pile of paper and one glad Disney Chick.
Hope you had the merriest of Christmases filled with holiday cheer,
Best wishes to you and your family for a Happy New Year!

Segway Tours in WDW: This is How I Roll
| That's me, receiving instruction. |
If you follow me on Twitter, have read this blog for awhile, or have met me in person, you know that I have an unhealthy obsession with Segways. If I could afford one, I would ride all over town like GOB at a construction site. And so, what happens when you combine Segways with my other favorite thing – Walt Disney World?
You get a Disney Chick full of glee, that’s what.
And so, I’ve compiled a short run-down of the WDW Segway tour offerings, and I can’t stress enough how incredibly fun they are. You’ll rock, you’ll roll, you’ll have an unforgettable time.
Around the World at Epcot – $99 per person, 2 hours. This was our first Segway adventure, and if you’re new to the world of Segways, it’s a good place to start. You arrive at Epcot early, go through a training session where you learn how to maneuver your Segway Personal Transporter – stopping, starting, dismounting, making turns, navigating obstacles, etc. Then the group heads out to the World Showcase (before it is open to the public) where you zip around the various pavilions, experience some stunning views of the World Showcase Lagoon, and have plenty of time for pictures. I mean, empty World Showcase? How often does that opportunity come along? Two things of note happened on this tour: first, a lady in our group forgot how to stop and every time the tour guide tried to corral us for some fact-sharing, the poor lady would keep on rolling. “LEAN BACK! YOU HAVE TO LEAN BACK!” our guide would shout, as he Segway-chased her across Italy. It was like that scene in The Italian Job, only not. Second, by the time you return back to Innoventions at the end of the tour, the park is fully open and operational. Meaning, your Segway skills are really put to the test as you try not to mow down neon-clad tour groups. Disney Chick: 1. Tourists: 0.
Wilderness Back Trail Adventure - $90 per person, 2 hours. If you’ve ever dreaming of experiencing the beauty of nature while riding a motorized scooter, this is the tour for you. These Segway X2s are designed for offroading, so it’s going to get bumpy in the most awesome way possible. This tour takes you all around Fort Wilderness and the surrounding areas, with some Disney trivia thrown in for good measure. You drive through backwoods, Florida marshiness, and down the nature trail at the Wilderness Lodge. We even saw some deer, and the guide said that past tours have seen alligators too. Again, lots of lovely views here, and it’s a great opportunity to explore parts of WDW property that are rarely seen. And one of our two guides sounded exactly – exactly – like Morgan Freeman. I’m serious. A fellow Segwayist even came up to me while we were touring the horse barn and asked: “Zee guide, he eez like zee president, non? When zee comet hits zee earth?” Yes, yes he is.
Simply Segway Tour - $35 per person, 1 hour. I haven’t tried this one yet, but it’s a condensed version of the Around the World at Epcot tour … except this one doesn’t leave the Innoventions area. If you’re looking to cut costs, it might be a good fit for you, but I highly recommend splurging on one of the other two tours.
And if you just need a quick fix, try visiting Segway Central inside Innoventions. After waiting in line and signing a waiver as long as said line, you get to hop on a Segway for, oh, about 3 minutes as the attendants let you roll forward and backward in a straight line. The last time I went, I got my balance on the Segway right away (thanks, muscle memory), and the attendant remarked, “Man, you’re a natural.” I told him this wasn’t my first time at the rodeo, and he said, “This machine was made for you! You’re the perfect size – you should totally get one of these.”
Hear that, Santa? Hmm?
(You must be 16 or older and weigh 100-250 lbs to ride. Call (407) WDW-TOUR for reservations.)
